A Micro burst roared through town at approximately 12:50 pm on Thursday wreaking havoc to trees, utilities and even some outbuildings. Large Debris fields were scattered through town, ranging from fallen branches and shredded leaves, to trash from overturned recycle bins and trash collection containers.
The Micro Burst was so powerful it destroyed a hangar at the Page Airport, shearing off a part of its roof and seriously damaging the rest of the structure. According to sources, the plane within the hangar was removed earlier in the day from the hangar for maintenance, saving it from a grisly fate.
The Micro Burst was powerful enough to snap a utility pole at the Chapman's Mobile home park, crashing into a roof and causing damage. No injuries were reported at the time. PUE was fast to respond to several outages and to the downed utility pole. Quickly working to repair damage.
There were several incidents on Lake Powell, some with serious injuries. According to the Coconino County Sheriff department most of the incidents occurred on the Utah side of the lake. However there were several incidents on the Arizona side where they had to respond. Dozens of swamped and sinking power boats, overturned houseboats and jetskis were reported at the time of this story. Classic Lifeguard Air Rescue was unable to respond during the high winds, but after they had subsided, they were off to assist, according to the Coconino County Sheriff department.
The Basketball Court behind Desert View Elementary School, and the fence around it received severe damage from a falling tree. At the time there were no reported injuries in that location.
LPNN Would like to thank the diligence and speed of PUE and the Public works department for a fast cleanup, and for the Sheriffs Department for responding to life threatening situations during and after this event.
